Getting Around the City

How to get around the city

Transportation is fairly sufficient within the city. Most recently the new GrabTaxi app was introduced and has been proven to be the most convenient mode of transport for travelers.

However if you want to explore the more intricate parts of Cagayan de Oro, the best way to get around is through our most unique modes of transport.

Motorela

The Motorela or “rela” for short is one of the most common modes of public transportation in Mindanao, especially CDO. You can get to anywhere in the downtown metro with the rela. Just ask the driver if he can take you to your destination and pay the amount requested (it can range from 8-20 pesos depending on how far you’re going).

Some relas are restricted to certain areas so in some trips you may need to take 2 at a time if you’re going beyond their assigned area. Don’t worry the drivers would be more than willing to help you find your way around.

Tip: Take the blue or yellow rela when getting to Ivory Pension House.

The trisikad (“sikad”) is also another way to get around the immediate downtown area. It’s mostly used for smaller roads and closer distances. You can use this to get to Limketkai or SM CDO Downtown Premier malls since they’re the closest malls to us. Fare could range from 5-20php per person depending on the distance.

The jeeps are the most common mode of transport in the Philippines. Our jeeps have specific routes usually written on the sides. Most of them are used to get from downtown to uptown CDO, while some routes can take you from Ivory Pension House to Divisoria or the Carmen area.

When all else fails, taxis are always available around the city as well as GrabTaxi through the Grab app.
